Summer 2014 update 4 - Going Home

After leaving Wyoming, we headed home to southern California.  We took a few days to stop in Salt Lake City.  I spent a couple of days in the Family History Library and hubby enjoyed not driving and hanging out at the pool.  Very relaxing!

We spent our last night of vacation in Las Vegas.  We had a great buffet dinner at the Bellagio hotel.

This is the end of our summer travels for 2014 - wish it could have been longer this year.  I had knee surgery on the 17th and we will be back to work August 1st :-(

Summer 2014 update 3 - Wyoming

We have seen some beautiful scenery in Wyoming over the last few days!  The Black Hills area around Devils Tower (we did not have an Encounter!), the Cloud Peak Skyway Scenic Byway of the Big Horn National Forest, the hot springs of Thermopolis, Wind River Canyon, and the South Pass area between Lander and Farson of the Shoshone National Forest.

Winnie was able to do all the passes (South Pass and Powder River Pass) even though a few times she was climbing the pass at about 30 mph.  It gave us time to look around!

There was some snow at the Powder River Pass.  Fluffball decided to lay down in it.

While in the area, we took a day trip to Cody to visit the Center of the West.  Worth it!

We stumbled into the Ten Sleep 4th of July Parade.  Winnie was unable to take the detour and we had a front row seat at the ending point of the parade.  Fun small town parade.  So much energy!

We stayed in a cute little town - Greybull.  The town has a siren go off every night at 9 pm.  It was originally a curfew siren but is now used as a test of the hearing of the volunteer fire fighters.  The average age of the volunteers is 78!  The Greybull KOA campground is awesome!

Summer 2014 update 2 - South Dakota

We finally made it to Rapid City, SD!  Now we get to be tourists!  Today we visited Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood, and Cabela's!  Buffalo steaks for dinner - YUM!

Summer 2014 update 1 - Hawaii and DC

I've decided to document our travels throughout the United States.  The blog starts today.  Our listings for visits covers the last 30 years since we got married June 23, 1984. Most of them were with our 2 children, now adults in their 20's or with our nephew who is currently 14.

This has been a busy summer so far.  Hubby's first day of vacation was Thursday.  We left for San Diego on Friday to fly out to Maui on Saturday morning at 7 am.

Maui was awesome!  But is was without Winnie.  I'm sure you can camp on the island but the Marriott Ocean Club makes it hard to do!  We arrived home about midnight the next Friday night.

Sunday morning we left for D.C. in Winnie.  Kid #2 is moving to a new apartment.  We took our time driving across the country - we didn't do it in 3 days this time.  Six leisurely days!

Along the way we stopped at the court house in Franklin County, VA to look for genealogical records.  My gggg-grandfather was sued multiple times!  Got copies of these records from 1800 - 1815.  Not sure if these will be enough for my entry into DAR.
